We have had a rather hectic few days so took the opportunity today to venture out on Hubby's new toy.

We bought the boat a few months ago and, up until now Hubby and Offspring #1 have been the only one to use it. We didn't have a lifejacket for #2 and, quite frankly, boats just aren't my thing. It's kind of a combination of deep water + drowning, muliplied by sharks + death by being eaten. To say that I have thrown any number of hurdles in Hubby's way would be an understatement but he managed to overcome all of them this weekend.

He found a teeny-sized life jacket just right for #2

The weather was beautiful - warm but not stinking hot and the water was calm and still.
And we didn't venture too far, just to one of the many islands right near the coast where the kids played, the grown-ups relaxed and we all enjoyed a picnic lunch.

The boys even managed a quick spot of fishing.

There are very few nice beaches in this part of the world. Mostly we have tidal mud-flats. But that all changes when you head for the islands where you can find any number of lovely little bays with soft white sand.

Offspring #1 loves being on the boat with his Dad, as you can probably tell by this photo.

And #2 had a great time too. She ran along the beach, jumped in the water, dug holes, built sand castles, threw the frisbee, fell over, and ended up so exhausted that she fell asleep on her little chair in the boat on the way back. Now that's tired!

You know, if he promises not to go too far or too fast I might even give it another go!

Hello Red Dirt Mum
I just wanted to let you know that I love reading your blog. It makes me homesick for Australia. From reading your posts, it sounds like you and your familiy have a great life. I still haven't figured out where abouts you live though!
Belinda

PS keep up the recipes!

What a fun day! Think of all the fun picnic food you can pack for future outings.

I too am scared of boats, water, drowning, sharks, etc. I never learned to swim so I'm sure that contributes to my fear.

Oddly enough, however, I LOVE the beach. I love to be NEAR the water and to see it, smell it, hear it, etc. So relaxing.

Loved seeing photos from your excursion to the beach. Looks like it was FUN!

xo,

Karen Beth :)
(This is my vintage store's blog; I usually post under zazazu.wordpress.com ... sorry for the confusion!)

P.S. Did I ever tell you that I dated a guy once from the Gold Coast in Aus? He said on more than one occasion how beautiful the beaches were there. I've seen pictures and I believe it!

Hi Mandij, I feel like I've just had a mini-holiday after looking at those gorgeous photos! Jake would be soooooo jealous as he's been asking lately to go fishing and Greg and I haven't a clue how to! Poor deprived kid! Where's the photo of you looking like a beach bunny? XOXO Anne

RDM, don't worry about sharks, they're only a problem if you fall in.

Great shots - can you send a little warm weather down to Melbourne?

Hi Belinda, thanks for dropping by. I do try to be a bit um... muddled about where we are, on purpose. But I know I drop lots of clues and info so keep reading and I'm sure you'll work it out LOL.

We're working on it, Claire :)

You read my mind, Paula!

Hi Karen Beth -yep our beaches are the best (and on this side of Aust they are way better than the Gold Coast beaches LOL but don't tell Melody or any of the others I said that!)

LOL Anne, you'll just have to come visit so my boys can teach your boys how to fish! Oh, and beach bunny pics? Never gonna happen!

LOL Kitchen Hand! I'm not at all envious of your weather at the moment, I'll see what I can do about pushing some warmth your way.

Thanks Melody.
