How To Neglect Your Blog

without really trying!

Step one: take on another kid for tutoring;

Step two: let your own kid take up a sporting activity;

Step three: all while your other own kid is not sleeping particularly well, thus you are not sleeping particularly well either;

Step four: be sad because your visitor went home and now you're very lonely and can't be bothered trying to make things sound good for the blog-reading world.

Or...

Just: stop bloody making excuses, get off your butt and post something!


We had this marinated bbq'd steak a couple of weeks ago and it was really good. I'm not a big red wine fan but this was delicious. I served it with smashed potatoes. Not mashed, smashed - you boil 'em up til they are cooked but not soggy, drain them then stick them in a frypan with some olive oil and just crush them once, gently, with a potato masher. They end up a lovely golden brown and are all fluffy and yummy and soft. I usually use 3 small-ish potatoes for the four of us and always wish I'd made more. They are even better with lots of salt and the best yet with this marinade poured over them.




Barbecued Red Wine Beef
from Meals From The Freezer





1 1/2 cups dry red wine
1/2 cup beef stock
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup finely shredded fresh basil leaves
3 cloves garlic, crushed
8 beef steaks (I used blade, you can use whatever you want or can afford!)

Combine all the ingredients with your steak in a large bowl. Leave to marinade in the fridge for at least 3 hours, or overnight if you can. This is enough marinade for 8 steaks so you can put some of the steaks into freezer bags with a little marinade and freeze them at this stage if you wanted to.


When they are done marinating, drain the steaks and reserve the marinade. Cook the steaks on the bbq (or grill them if you prefer). While you're doing that, put the reserved marinade in a small saucepan and bring it to the boil. Simmer, uncovered for about 10 minutes or until the sauce thickens slightly. Pour the sauce over steak (and potatoes if you wish!). Serve with crusty bread and a salad.

It is such a let-down when company leaves. But that's better than wishing they'd left earlier! lol
